Local Players
324 players were invited to participate in the event. Here are the five local players to watch during the Combine:
Former Utah Utes
- Devin Lloyd – Linebacker
- Nephi Sewell – Linebacker
Former BYU Cougars
- Tyler Allgeier – Running Back
Former Southern Utah Thunderbirds
- Braxton Jones – Offensive Lineman
Former High School Standouts
- Jaylen Warren – Running Back (East High/Utah State/Oklahoma State)
The headliner from the local invites is Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd, who, according to some NFL Draft insiders, is a top-10 prospect in this year’s class. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has the do-it-all Utah linebacker as the No. 8 overall player in the draft.
Lloyd piled up 111 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four interceptions as he helped Utah capture its first Pac-12 Championship in program history.
Staying within Utah’s defense, Lloyd’s linebacker teammate, Nephi Sewell, was also invited to the Combine. Once a transfer from the University of Nevada, Sewell flourished in 2021, producing a career-best 89 tackles last season.
At BYU, star running back Tyler Allgeier received an invite to Indianapolis. The former walk-on from Fontana, California, produced the most yards in a season by a BYU running back this past fall. Allgeier rushed for 1,601 yards and found the endzone a total of 23 times to help BYU produce back-to-back double-digit win seasons.
Another ball carrier with ties to the state of Utah will be in Indianapolis with Allgeier, that’s former East High ball carrier Jaylen Warren. Warren had a well-traveled collegiate career making stops at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah State, before finally settling in at Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Conference. Warren was Oklahoma State’s leading rusher and helped OSU produce a 12-win season, capped by a victory over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
Sometimes Southern Utah gets overlooked, but if you’re talented, the NFL will find you. The Thunderbirds had one of the best offensive lineman prospects in the FCS ranks this past season in offensive tackle Braxton Jones, one of the 324 prospects at the 2022 Combine.
