Dixie State Overcomes Poor Shooting, Clings To One Point Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The Trailblazers hung on late as Holland Woods missed a three-pointer at the buzzer, giving Dixie State the 61-60 win.
Dixie State (5-7, 12-13) hosted the Grand Canyon Antelope (7-4, 17-6) at Burns Arena in St. George, UT on Saturday, February 12.
Poor shooting from the tip led to a low scoring but close game as the two teams combined for six ties and five lead changes.

Miserable first half shooting by each team and 15 combined turnovers led to a low scoring first half. It took a late surge for Dixie State to reach the 33 percent shooting plateau. Grand Canyon finished to first 20 minutes shooting 30.3 percent.
The two teams combined for 3-21 from deep in the first half.
The Trailblazers did not lead in the first half.

The second half went back and forth with neither team able to take a significant lead. From the 4:28 mark, neither team lead by more than three points.
Dixie State was able to gain an advantage by outscoring the Antelopes by 14 points in the paint and nearly doubling GCU’s free throw attempts, converting 11-15 compared to 7-8 for Grand Canyon.

Yvan Ouedraogo finished with a double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hunter Schofield’s 18 points paced the Trailblazers followed by Dancell Leter’s 15.
The Trailblazers now sit ninth in the WAC. They trail Seattle University by 7.5 games.
Dixie State now heads out on the road to take on the New Mexico State Aggies in Las Cruces, N.M. at the Pan American Center on Wednesday, February 16. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MDT)
