SALT LAKE CITY – Utah linebacker Nephi Sewell and the West roster beat Utes offensive lineman Bamidele Olaseni and the East team in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

The 2022 Shrine Game took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday, February 3.

Sewell helped the West to a 25-24 win over Olaseni and the East.

Sewell and the West controlled the first half of the contest and took an 11-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

After both teams scored touchdowns in the third quarter, the West maintain its advantage going to the final quarter of action. The West added to its total early in the fourth quarter and appeared to put the game away after taking a 25-8 lead. However, Olaseni and the East marched back with a pair of touchdowns in the final four minutes of game time. Unfortunately for Olaseni and the East, the early deficit was too much to overcome.

This season, Sewell and Olaseni helped the Utes to their first-ever Pac-12 Conference title and a berth to the Rose Bowl Game.

In 2021, Sewell recorded 89 total tackles, 54 solo tackles, and one interception.

Utah linebacker Mika Tafua was invited to this year’s East-West Shrine Bowl but was unable to play.

The 2022 NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas from April 28-30.
