SALT LAKE CITY – The Real Monarchs are preparing for their debut MLS Next Pro season by announcing player acquisitions. Over the past 24 hours, the Monarchs have announced two very exciting young soccer players.

Firstly, Leo Torres will return to the club on loan for a second season after previously joining in the middle of the 2021 campaign from San Antonio FC. The Monarchs and San Antonio FC again came to an agreement that will bring the 18-year-old back to Utah for one more season.

“Real Monarchs are excited to welcome back Leo Torres on loan for the entirety of the 2022 season. Having had Leo with us for the latter months of the 2021 season, our staff is well versed in his abilities as a footballer, his character, and his potential for growth. We look forward to seeing Leo’s continued progress this year,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.

The second player announced by the Monarchs was Academy player Terron Williams. The 16-year-old has impressed at the youth level with his form warranting a professional contract.

Williams joins the likes of Yekeson Subah, Jaziel Orozco, David Ochoa, Julio Benitez, among others in joining the Monarchs from the Academy.

“During his time in our academy, Terron Williams has continually proved himself as an elite attacking threat. With the signature of his first professional contract for Real Monarchs, our Club and staff eagerly look forward to continuing his development at the professional level, and being a part of Terron’s progression for years to come,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.

Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Title, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield, and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019 while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
