U Of U Sends More Athletes To Winter Olympics Than Any Other University

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Utes will be well-represented at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing with current and former athletes competing.

In fact, the 35 athletes with University of Utah ties is the most competing in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games than any other university in the world.

With the rich history of great skiers from Utah, it makes sense that most of the athletes with ties to the Utes are in the skiing events.

Utah Alpine Skiing Competitors In Olympics

The Utes have eight athletes in Alpine Skiing events, including four competitors that are currently enrolled at Utah:

  • Tomas Birkner
  • Keely Cashman
  • Madison Hoffman
  • Breezy Johnson
  • Maureen Lebel
  • Katie Parker
  • Roni Remme
  • Katie Vesterstein

Hoffman is a sophomore at Utah from Sydney, Australia. Katie Parker is a senior from Melbourne, Australia. Katie Vesterstein is a senior from Duluth, Minnesota.

Birkner is a senior from Bariloche, Argentina.

Utah Utes Competing In Freestyle Ski Events In Olympics

Utah has nine athletes representing their school in freestyle ski events:

  • Ashley Caldwell
  • Caroline Claire
  • Alexander Hall
  • Marin Hamill
  • Birk Irving
  • Megan Nick
  • Hannah Soar
  • Darian Stevens
  • Winter Vinecki

Cross-Country Skiing

The Utes have five competitors in cross-country skiing, including three that are currently on the roster:

  • Kevin Bolger
  • Snorri Einarsson
  • Luke Jager
  • Sophia Laukli
  • Novie McCabe

Jager is a junior from Anchorage, Alaska. Laukli is a junior from Yarmouth, Maine. McCabe is a sophomore from Winthrop, Washington.

Nordic Combined

Two athletes with Utah ties will be competing in the Nordic Combined at the Winter Olympic Games:

  • Jasper Good
  • Jared Schumate

Ski Jumping

Two Utah athletes will be heading to Beijing for the Ski Jumping competition.

Utah will have a ton of speedskaters with seven competing in Beijing.

The Utes will have two alums in snowboarding competitions in the Olympics.
