BYU Signee Collin Chandler Named McDonald’s All-American Nominee

SALT LAKE CITY – BYU basketball signee Collin Chandler is in the mix for one of the highest honors in high school hoops.
Chandler was named a nominee for the 2022 McDonald’s All-American Game. After two years away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the McDonald’s All-American Game is returning this year to Chicago in March.

Chandler was one of 760+ nominees for both boys and girls All-American teams. He is one of four boys from the state of Utah to receive a nomination and the only hooper here in the state to prep outside of Wasatch Academy.

Chandler has a chance to make the game as he is the No. 33 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite ratings for the 2022 recruiting cycle. A 6-foot-4, 170-pound combo guard from Farmington High School, Chandler, signed with BYU in November, turning down offers from Arizona, Gonzaga, Stanford, Utah, and others.
This season is Chandler’s final year with Farmington High and the senior guard is averaging 20.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in 15 appearances.

The final 2022 McDonald’s All-American roster will be announced on Tuesday, January 25.
Chandler is the second-highest recruit to sign with BYU in the 21st century. His 0.9860 composite score with 247Sports is only one point behind Eric Mika, who had a two-year career with BYU before playing professionally, which included a brief stint in the NBA.

BYU Basketball’s history with McDonald’s All-American nominees & participants
Last year, BYU had a signee named a McDonald’s All-American nominee in Timpview’s Jake Wahlin. In 2020, two BYU signees were nominees in Wasatch Academy’s Richie Saunders and Caleb Lohner.
Some other BYU players named nominees in the past decade include Kyle Collinsworth, Tyler Haws, Brandon Davies, DaMarcus Harrison, Raul Delgado, Nick Emery, Erick Mika, TJ Haws, Payton Dastrup, and Yoeli Childs.
BYU has had only four players in its history named to the final McDonald’s All-American rosters since the annual game began in 1978. Devin Durrant, Greg Kite, Shawn Bradley, and Garner Meads.
