SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU football star Tyler Allgeier has his eyes set on an NFL career.
The single-season rushing leader in BYU history announced last month his decision to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility to enter the 2022 NFL draft. After rushing for over 1,600 yards in 2021, the Fontana, California native likely created the best stock possible for his pro future.

Bleacher Report is buying into some of that stock from Allgeier. The media outlet, owned by Turner, released their “end-of-season Top 150” for this year’s draft and Allgeier ranked as the 38th player overall.
The 38th spot puts Allgeier as the third-ranked running back in the 2022 NFL draft class. Kenneth Walker Jr. from Michigan State (26) and Iowa State’s Breece Hall (36) were the only ball carriers in front of Allgeier in the rankings.
The total number of picks in the first round of the NFL draft is 32.
Allgeier rushed for 2,904 yards on 452 carries during his four years at BYU. Allgeier scored 36 touchdowns the past two seasons and, throughout his career, averaged 6.4 yards per carry. During the 2021 season, Allgeier scored 20 touchdowns, which was tied for first nationally with Marshall’s Rasheen Ali.

When Tyler Allgeier arrived at BYU in 2018, he joined as a preferred walk-on with no FBS offers. After one year as a running back in 2018, he switched to linebacker, where he recorded 26 tackles and 0.5 sacks. But after suffering season-ending injuries to Ty’Son Williams (Baltimore Ravens) and Sione Finau, Allgeier returned to his original position. He never looked back from there, finishing fifth all-time in BYU’s career rushing yardage ranks.
The 2022 NFL draft takes place April 28-30 in Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium. BYU typically holds their annual Pro Day event at the end of March at the Indoor Practice Facility, but no date has been announced yet.
