SALT LAKE CITY – In a back and forth game, Montana found a way to come out on top 74-72 after Lonnell Martin hit a tough layup with three seconds left.

Weber State (3-1, 10-5) travelled to Missoula, MT to face the Montana Grizzlies (3-1, 10-5) on Saturday, January 1.

Montana built an eight point lead with 7:06 left in the half when Robby Beasley knocked down a three, putting Montana on top 23-15.

Koby McEwen then spearheaded an 18-9 run to close the half, scoring seven points during the run to finish the half as the leading scorer with 14 points.

With the Wildcats leading 33-32 at halftime, Montana regrouped in the locker room and immediately took a lead, expanding it to 46-40 five minutes into the second half.

The final 15 minutes saw incredibly physical play, nine lead changes and four ties, with both teams physically exhausted.

The game was scoreless for nearly two minutes after Dillon Jones tied the game at 72 for the Wildcats. Martin’s layup then broke the scoring drought and the hearts of the Wildcats.

McEwen led Weber State in scoring with 24 while Jones and JJ Overton scored 17 and 11 points apiece.

Robby Beasley led the Grizzlies, scoring 19 points.

Weber State will play their third consecutive road game, this time in Pocatello against the Idaho State Bengals on Saturday, January 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MDT). This game will be streamed on ESPN+.
