SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men’s basketball team struggled with turnovers as they fell to the Oregon State Beavers 88-76 on Thursday night in Corvallis.

David Jenkins Jr. led the way with 22 points for Utah. Marco Anthony was the only other Utah player to reach double figures with 10 points. The Runnin’ Utes committed 20 turnovers, while Oregon State scored 23 points off of those miscues.

Jarod Lucas led the Beavers with 25 points. Warith Alatishe chipped in 16 points, while Dashawn Davis added 13.

Turnovers, Defense Hurts Utah In First Half Against Oregon State

Utah was shooting the ball well early in the game but couldn’t get stops on the defensive end. Oregon State started the game by making 11 of their first 15 shot attempts.

After the Beavers’ lead reached 14, Utah would chip away but would struggle once again after committing costly turnovers. Oregon State held a 47-38 lead at the halftime break.

The Runnin’ Utes were led by David Jenkins Jr. with 13 points. Riley Battin and Marco Anthony added seven points apiece. They shot 50% from the field and 58% from the three-point line, while committing 11 turnovers.

Oregon State was led by Jarod Lucas with 14 points. Dashawn Davis chipped in 11 points. The Beavers shot 62% from the floor, 66% from beyond the arc and committed just three turnovers.

Utah Makes Early Run In Second Half But Not Enough Against Oregon State

The Runnin’ Utes got a big spark to start the second half as they went on a 13-5 run. Oregon State’s lead was just one point with under 16 minutes to play in the game.

The Beavers stretched their lead back to 10 points heading down the home stretch. With time winding down, Utah was in need of big plays but had a couple of key defensive breakdowns. With four minutes left, Utah trailed by nine points and went nearly three minutes without scoring.

Utah dropped their record to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in Pac-12 play. They will wrap up their road trip in Eugene against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, January 1 at 8:30 p.m. MT on the Pac-12 Network.
