Hall suffered an injury in the final regular-season game against USC. After the game, Hall had a prominent limp as he walked up to the postgame press conference after the victory over the Trojans. Unfortunately, the injury has lingered into the bowl season as he will only be available if needed.
Romney has started two games this season. He started in relief of an injured Jaren Hall against USF and Utah State. Romney posted a 2-0 record in those games. The El Paso, Texas native also appeared at the end of the Arizona State game after Hall left due to a ribs injury that was initially suffered versus Utah but re-injured against the Sun Devils.
“There’s a chance you could see a number of players you didn’t see at the end of the regular season,” Kalani Sitake told KSL Sports on Friday.
Sitake was right as Baylor Romney hasn’t appeared in a game since October.
Hall was tasked with the tall order of succeeding No. 2 overall NFL draft pick Zach Wilson as BYU’s starting QB. He’s done an excellent job in his first season as a full-time starter.
Hall has passed for 2,583 yards and thrown 20 touchdowns to only five interceptions. The fourth-year sophomore signal-caller has completed 63.9% of his attempts on the season.
No. 13 BYU takes on UAB in the 2021 Independence Bowl today in Shreveport at 1:30 p.m. (MT). You can watch the game on ABC or listen to the broadcast on KSL NewsRadio, your legacy home of the BYU Cougars.
