Out Of Contract Real Salt Lake Captain Albert Rusnák Drawing Interest From Premier League Clubs

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake captain Albert Rusnák is drawing interest from a handful of Premier League Clubs, according to a recent report by the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Southampton and Newcastle are the clubs interested in the Real Salt Lake captain.

Rusnák, 27, runs out of his current contract with Real Salt Lake on December 31st.

Rusnák’s career began in England when he was a member of the Manchester City Academy. He spent five years from 2010 to 2015 but was unable to crack into the first team.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Rusnák is welcome to a return to England, despite Rusnák publically stating recently that he would like to return to Real Salt Lake.

In 2018, prior to Rusnák signing his most recent deal with Real Salt Lake that paid him roughly $2 million a year, interest from Europe was prevalent. Furthermore, current Crystal Palace boss and former NYCFC manager Patrick Viera was quoted in 2018 prior to an NYCFC and Real Salt Lake game that “when he was at City we saw that talent. He was ready to play ‘man’s football’ when he was 17, 18 years old. (He is one of the) best number tens in the league.”

Immediately following the loss to Portland in the Conference Final, Rusnák told KSL Sports that he is keen on returning to the club. However, with a lack of ownership, he admitted that the club must act sooner rather than later if they want him to return.

This season, Rusnák broke a club record by appearing in 3,045 minutes across the regular season, only missing 15 minutes of playing time across the 34 game slate.
