SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and current New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill suffered a hand injury early in the game and struggled in his first start at quarterback this season in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Saints hosted the Cowboys on Thursday, December 2.

New Orleans suffered a 27-17 loss to Dallas.

After serving as a backup quarterback through the first 12 weeks of the season, Hill started the game at QB for the Saints.

During the first half, Hill hit his throwing hand on the arm of a Cowboys defensive lineman. The former BYU star went to the sideline and into the Saints’ medical tent. One of the fingers on Hill’s throwing hand had a splint taped onto the back of the hand before the quarterback went back to the field on the next drive.

Early in the second quarter, Hill threw his first touchdown pass of the season.

The score helped the Saints trail by six points at halftime, 13-7.

During the third quarter, Saints head coach Sean Payton utilized Hill in the run game and it proved effective against the Cowboys.

Like his leaping touchdown as a BYU player against the Texas Longhorns, Hill had an impressive hurdle on a run in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Hill struggled. He threw three of his four interceptions on the night during the second half.

Late in the game, Hill tossed another touchdown pass to make it a 10-point game.

Hill finished the game 19/41 passing for 264 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. He led the Saints in rushing with 11 carries for 101 yards. Hill was sacked twice.

With the loss, the Saints fell to a record of 5-7 this season.

New Orleans’ next game is against the New York Jets on Sunday, December 12 at 11 a.m. (MDT) on CBS.
