The basketball jerseys are a continuation of Utah Athletics’ campaign to honor the USS Salt Lake City, which was a heavy cruiser in World War II.
Utah’s football team wore “USS Salt Lake City” uniforms during their win over the No. 3 Oregon Ducks on November 20. The jerseys were part of a Military Appreciation Day.
This season, the two programs own a combined 9-0 record to start the season.
Utah women’s basketball (4-0) plays its next game in the Rainbow Wahine Classic against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Utes and Bulldogs will play on Friday, November 26 at 3 p.m. (MDT).
Up next for Utah men’s basketball (5-0) is a meeting with rival and No. 18 ranked BYU on Saturday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
