SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau shot a 59 at Silverleaf Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona to tie Jon Rahm’s course record over the weekend.
The accomplishment occurred during a friendly encounter alongside Rahm, swing coach Boyd Summerhays and son Preston Summerhays, and caddie Mark Urbanek. The round of golf did not occur in competition, the round was one with far less pressure, that was until Finau began to realize what was on the verge of occurring.
The opening nine holes included five birdies, he made the turn having shot an opening nine 31. But it was the back-nine where Finau did his damage. Starting on the 11th hole, Finau managed to drop eight consecutive birdies to close out the round.
Swing coach Boyd Summerhays, who is frequently seen taking footage of his clients, documented the round magnificently. The final putt on 18 to tie the record was a monstrous 15 footer that found the center of the cup.

The news rattled the golfing world with Phil Mickelson commenting on the post with “Oh my. What a round!”
It was the third time in Finau’s career that he has shot in the ’50s. His last accomplishment occurred in 2020 when he managed to do so at Victory Ranch in Utah.
