BYU basketball had the college basketball world buzzing after their 81-49 thrashing over No. 12 Oregon in the PK Invitational.
The Cougars, not the Ducks, looked like the squad that belonged in the Top 25 rankings. Senior guard Alex Barcello went off for 25 points in the 32-point victory, making a clear statement that he and his team are to be taken seriously nationally this season.
The College Basketball world on social media did take notice of BYU’s dominant victory over Oregon. Here are some of the notable reactions.

Can you rank BYU hoops now?!?! Love watching these guys play ball. #GoCougs 🤙🏽

BYU absolutely destroying a good Oregon team right now.
Mark Pope remains one of the best young coaches in college hoops – that never actually gets acknowledged as, well, one of the best young coaches in college basketball

On the bright side for the Pac-12, only one football game and one basketball game left against BYU.

An absolute thrashing of nationally-ranked Oregon.#BYU‘s second-best win of the Mark Pope era.
Cougs have arrived on the national landscape. https://t.co/Ob5hamAhyT

Pac-12 has to stop playing BYU in sports. Too painful. https://t.co/kuYfcL6mRU

First BYU Basketball game i’ve seen this season and wow, great defense, solid play around the hoop getting rebounds. I’m impressed.

BYU 81, Oregon 49. Final.
Holy crap.

Not a bad week for Mark Pope and BYU. Last Wednesday, they signed their highest-ranked recruit in almost a decade in Collin Chandler. Beat San Diego State on Friday.
And then tonight, they go to Portland and drill No. 12 Oregon by 32 points. 32!

@BYUMBB is for real, for real.
Deep, talented, an elite shooter in Alex Barcello and what a coach in Mark Pope. HUGE win for the Cougs tonight. pic.twitter.com/TGjHtAR7YI— Kevin Connors (@kevconnorsespn) November 17, 2021

Dana Altman on the loss:
“This team doesn’t play that poorly if they’ve been coached well. I’ve been soft.
“I am totally embarrassed. I am upset with myself.
“I say these things and that takes away from BYU and what they did.”
Altman very impressed by BYU.

I vow to talk about Mark Pope and BYU basketball more during the Pac-12 Update
— Tate Frazier (@tatefrazier) November 17, 2021
I think BYU should be already been ranked, but they are without question in the rankings next week.
