SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and current New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson said he “can’t even worry” about his job status and that his “time is going to come” when he’s healthy.
Wilson provided an update on his knee injury on Thursday, November 11.
The former BYU quarterback has missed New York’s last two games after he suffered a knee injury on October 24.
Since Wilson’s injury, backup QB Mike White has led the 2-6 Jets to a 1-1 record. White threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns in his first start.
White’s play has some fans and media members wondering if Wilson will regain his starting job when healthy.
“I just got here. I’m supposed to be a senior in college right now. You have to understand, it’s going to be hard. I’m not making excuses, but that’s where growth comes from.” Wilson said of his job status. “I definitely didn’t come here thinking this would be the greatest thing ever and we’re going to go undefeated. I knew it was going to be tough and that’s part of the process. That’s what makes football so fun. My time is going to come.”

Wilson added the White is his closest friend on the Jets’ roster.
“We both understand this is part of the business of football,” Wilson said of White. “I want to play, he wants to play. It’s just how it is. What’s the point of butting heads when we can help each other out? I think we can both benefit from the situation.”
Wilson has participated in a limited capacity during some of New York’s recent practices. He is continuing to recover from a PCL sprain that was given a recovery timeline of two to four weeks.
Wilson’s stats for 2021 are 104/181 passing for a 57.5 completion rate, 1,168 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
