Southern Utah Smashes Bethesda For Season-Opening Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The Southern Utah men’s basketball team blew out the Bethesda Flames for a season-opening victory.
The Thunderbirds hosted the Flames at America First Events Center in Cedar City on Tuesday, November 9.
SUU smashed Bethesda, 116-74.

After both teams battled for the first eight minutes of game time, the T-Birds started to create some separation on the scoreboard.
By the midway point of the first half, Southern Utah had stretched its lead to double-digits.
At halftime, the Thunderbirds led the Flames by 22 points, 50-28.
Southern Utah continued to dominate after the break and outscored Bethesda by 20 points during the final 20 minutes of action.

Five Thunderbirds reached double figures in scoring.
Dre Marin led SUU with 20 points on 5-9 shooting, including 4-7 on three-pointers.
Thunderbirds forward Maizen Fausett recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

SUU shot 45.0 percent from the field, including 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Thunderbirds improved to a 1-0 record.
Southern Utah’s next game is on the road against the Dixie State Trailblazers on Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will stream on ESPN+.
