SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz have assigned rookie Jared Butler to their G League affiliate the Salt Lake City Stars.
The team made the announcement on Tuesday that they were sending the guard to the Stars roster for his first assignment of the season.
Prior to the move, Butler had found himself out of the Jazz rotation over the Jazz previous two games in Miami and Orlando.

Butler appeared in the first eight games of the season for the Jazz where he averaged 1.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 5.6 minutes per game.
The second-round draft pick out of Baylor had a breakout performance in the Jazz’s preseason where he led the team in both scoring assists. Butler averaged 18 points per game and 4.3 assists while shooting 49 percent from the floor and 33 percent from the three-point line.
However, the guard struggled once the regular season opened knocking down just 23 percent of his field-goal attempts and 18 percent of his threes.
During the Jazz’s three-game road trip, two-way guard Trent Forrest earned added minutes with absences from Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley when he averaged 17 minutes in two separate appearances.
Stars Schedule
Butler has been assigned to practice with the Stars but will likely be recalled to the Jazz before the G League team plays their next game.
The Stars aren’t scheduled to play until November 17 when they will host the Santa Cruz Warriors to open a two-game series.
The Jazz meanwhile will play their next five games at home and won’t head back on the road until November 20 against the Sacramento Kings.
Zaire Wade says his first G League season isn't about proving his doubters wrong.

Second-year Jazz center Udoka Azubuike has already seen extended minutes with the Stars this season after being assigned to the roster before their season-opening series against the Oklahoma City Blue.
Butler is listed as out for the Jazz’s Tuesday game against the Atlanta Hawks while he’s on assignment with the Stars.
*Update: Both Butler and Azubuike were recalled to the Jazz ahead of their matchup with the Hawks.
