BYU Football’s Tyler Allgeier Among Players To Be Honored During Senior Day

PROVO, Utah – BYU football star running back Tyler Allgeier is among the 11 players who will be honored during Senior Day against Idaho State.
Allgeier entered the season listed as a sophomore on BYU’s official roster, but this is his fourth season with the Cougars. The Fontana, California native is on pace to graduate from Brigham Young University. However, he does have the opportunity to play two more years because one of his years at BYU was a redshirt in 2018 and the 2020 season was a free year of eligibility due to COVID-19.

BYU will honor 3 seniors (Jared Kapisi, Samson Nacua, Uriah Leiataua) and 11 other players who are finishing their 4th or 5th collegiate season and still have the option to return to complete additional eligibility thanks to the 2020 COVID-19 season or other factors. pic.twitter.com/v9fZwEvBux— BYU Game Notes (@BYUGameNotes) November 6, 2021
At 5-foot-11, 220-pounds, Allgeier is one of only three running backs in college football to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark entering week 10 of the season.
Last week, Allgeier rushed for a career-high 266 yards in BYU’s historic 66-49 win over the Virginia Cavaliers.
Allgeier joins a class of 11 players that will be honored during BYU’s Senior Day festivities on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
The total number of players that will be honored during the 2021 Senior Day is 11 players. All but three of them have the opportunity to return to play next season.
The three players playing the last home game of their BYU careers are defensive back Jared Kapisi, defensive lineman Uriah Leiataua, and wide receiver Samson Nacua.
Along with Allgeier, the players that will be honored before the Idaho State game, but have the opportunity to return, include DB Matthew Criddle, OL JT Gentry, OL James Empey, LB Drew Jensen, RB Lopini Katoa, DB Jason Money, WR Neil Pau’u, WR Gunner Romney, DL Earl Tuioti-Mariner, and OL Joe Tukuafu.
Coming into the season, Gunner Romney told KSL Sports that he viewed this year as his final season at BYU. Romney is a Senior Bowl watch list prospect.
Allgeier is a player that has potentially elevated his NFL draft stock with his play last season and this year.
