Southern Utah Suffers One-Point Road Loss To Montana

SALT LAKE CITY – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds struggled to score in the second half and suffered a one-point loss to the Montana Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies hosted the Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 30.

The T-Birds struck first on a 32-yard field goal by Noah Alejado with 2:24 remaining in the opening quarter.

Isaiah Williams added to that total with a two-yard touchdown and gave the Thunderbirds a 9-0 lead with 10:37 left in the second quarter.
Five minutes later, Montana got on the scoreboard with a field goal.
10 seconds after their field goal, the Grizzlies jumped in front with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown.
However, SUU wasn’t done scoring in the first half.
With 2:59 left to play before halftime, Brandon Schenks caught a 60-yard pass from Justin Miller to put Southern Utah back on top, 16-10.

Montana opened the second half with a touchdown to go up 17-16 with 8:46 left in the third quarter.
With 1:28 to go until the fourth quarter, SUU moved back in front with an Alejado field goal.

Montana took the lead for good with a 30-yard field goal less than four minutes into the final quarter.

With the loss, the T-Birds fell to a 1-8 record this season, including 0-6 in Big Sky Conference games.
Southern Utah’s next game is on the road against the Idaho Vandals on Saturday, November 6 at 2 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
