BYU leads the all-time series against Washington State 3-1. Washington State’s lone victory against BYU came in 1989 when Ty Detmer was the starting quarterback for the Cougars in blue.

This game features two teams on streaks. BYU is currently on a two-game losing streak after back-to-back losses to Boise State and Baylor. Head coach Kalani Sitake called out the physicality of his team after the loss last week to Baylor.
Washington State has won three in a row and is 4-3 overall on the season. But that’s not the big story for the Cougs on the Palouse, it’s the coaching staff situation. Nick Rolovich plus four assistants were dismissed for not complying with the state of Washington’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate issued by the Governor.
Washington State players disagreed with the action by the school to let go of Rolovich who was in his second season with the Cougs. Don’t be surprised if WSU players come out inspired to win one for their former coach.

This is the fifth opponent BYU has faced this season from a Power Five conference. BYU is 3-1 in the previous four games, with the three victories all coming against Pac-12 competition.
The quarterback battle in this matchup will be a storyline to watch. Jaren Hall is getting closer to 100% health and has posted career-high marks the past two weeks in passing yardage highlighted by a 342-yard performance against Baylor.

Jayden de Laura has ignited the Run-N-Shoot attack for Washington State after he took over as the starter for grad transfer Jarrett Guarantano. A native of St. Louis High School in Hawaii, BYU coaches extended a scholarship offer to de Laura during his decorated prep career.
BYU versus Washington State kicks off at 1:30 p.m. on FS1. You can listen to the game on KSL NewsRadio (102.7 FM, 1160 AM).

I wonder what’s going on with Jake Oldroyd.
Maybe it’s the injury that hampered him at the start of the season.
He doesn’t look like the same guy from 2020.

#BYU playing it safe on 3rd & 16 with a run to Tyler Allgeier in WSU territory backfires as Jake Oldroyd misses a 45-yard FG attempt. #BYUvsWSU #BYUFootball @kslsports

Already 3 missed tackles on the opening drive for the #BYU defense.
Borghi breaks a tackle near the line of scrimmage to propel himself into the end zone.
That’s not going to get the job for a group that has struggled to get off the field during the past two weeks. @kslsports
— Matthew Baiamonte (@baiamontematt) October 23, 2021
No pressure from the #BYU defense on the opening drive.
Wazzu is already running their 10th play on the drive.
