SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – You may recognize Weber State Spirit Squad’s new member Gabi Butler from the popular Netflix show “Cheer”.
If you, like much of the world, binged Cheer at the very beginning of the pandemic you’ll remember Butler’s high flying acrobatics and animated facial expressions while on the matt.
“Cheer” documented the Navarro College cheer team in Corsicana, Texas, one of the nation’s best teams.
Butler, arguably the best cheerleader on the show, was shown traveling across the country to cheer for competitive leagues but in a video posted by Weber State Butler admits she never thought she would go far with cheerleading.

“I was eight when I started cheerleading, and, you know, I never thought I was going to go far with cheerleading. I thought out of all the people on the team I was the worst one,” Butler said.
Butler called her decision to attend Weber State “one of the best decisions” she has made.

Butler said she will be finishing her career with Weber State.
“I feel like it’s a great way to end, I’m not really sure what my future holds but I do know this is a very big stepping stone for me. I feel like I have reached the very top of the peak,” Butler finished.
