Wood, MacMath, Brody, To Star For Real Monarchs Against Colorado Springs Switchbacks
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake has relegated a number of first-team players to the Real Monarchs ahead of the fixture against Colorado Springs Switchbacks this upcoming Friday evening.
Striker Bobby Wood, goalkeeper Zac MacMath, full-back’s Andrew Brody and Ashtone Morgan, and midfielder Justin Portillo will all suit up for the Monarchs against the Switchbacks.
Furthermore, a total of nine players on Real Salt Lake contracts will be available for Jamison Olave’s side as attacking midfielder Milan Iloski, fullback’s Bode Davis and Brett Halsey, and goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup are also available.
Iloski, Davis, Halsey, and Dewsnup have spent the majority of this season with the Monarchs. Iloski and Davis have spent time with the first team, but have only managed to appear on the bench for Pablo Mastroeni.
Real Salt Lake confirmed the decision to relegate a number of first-team players was due to match fitness.
Currently, Real Salt Lake does not play another regular-season game until October 16th when they host Colorado Rapids. The break in the season is due to another round of World Cup Qualifying matches.
Moreover, Wood, MacMath, Brody, Morgan, and Portillo have not been getting consistent minutes at the first-team level. Wood and Brody were both playing a significant role with the first team until they were both struck down with injuries.
Match fitness will play a pivotal role as the Major League Soccer regular season concludes. When Real Salt Lake returns to the pitch on October 16th they will play their closing six games within a 25-day span.
Furthermore, Real Monarchs will be celebrating 80’s night when they host the Switchbacks.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, October 8, and will be available to stream via the KSL 5 Sports & KSL 5 TV apps or on KSL Sports dot com.
