LOGAN, Utah – The 90th meeting featuring BYU vs Utah State kicks off tonight at Maverik Stadium here in the Cache Valley. This matchup is the first meeting between the two schools since 2019.
Last year’s contest was canceled due to COVID-19.
BYU enters the game ranked No. 13 in the AP Top 25 rankings with a 4-0 record. The Cougars have put together a solid resume this season defeating three teams from Power Five conferences.
Utah State in year one under head coach Blake Anderson has exceeded everyone’s expectations by starting the season with a 3-1 record. The Aggies had their lone setback last week in a 27-3 defeat against Mountain West power Boise State.
The Aggies are looking to get back in the win column over BYU. Utah State took down the Cougars in 2017 and 2018 and have won four of the last 10 meetings.
BYU won the last meeting 42-14 and leads the all-time series 49-37-3.
One of the fun storylines to watch in this game is how BYU handles the crowd noise in Logan. Utah State switched the benches so opposing teams now nestled up against the USU student section, The Hurd.
This matchup with feature some intriguing options at quarterback. For BYU, the Cougars will have a game time decision on who starts. Baylor Romney got the start last week after Jaren Hall was sidelined due to an injury.
If Hall isn’t 100%, wouldn’t be a shock to see Romney get another start this week.
For Utah State, the Aggies start Arkansas State transfer Logan Bonner, but they play two quarterbacks with Andrew Peasley averaging more than 20 snaps per game through the first four weeks of the season.
BYU vs Utah State has the makings to be a game that you will want to keep checking on throughout the night as you kick off your General Conference weekend with some college football action.
The KSL Sports team will have updates from the press box at Maverik Stadium throughout the evening.

Strong Arizona and USF game vibes on that defensive series for #BYU. Gave up an 18-play TD drive to the Aggies. Could not get off the field on 3rd or 4th downs.
That's been an issue at times for this defense. #BYUvsUSU #BYUFootball @kslsports

Baylor Romney is a cool, calm customer and has a knack for getting the ball to the playmakers.
On the first drive…
– Deep pass to Puka Nacua
– Quick hit to brother Gunner
– Handoff for a TD to Tyler Allgeier. #BYU #BYUvsUSU @kslsports— Mitch Harper (@Mitch_Harper) October 2, 2021
Puka Nacua … big time talent

Coming into this season one of the biggest questions was how BYU would replace two great safeties in Troy Warner and Zayne Anderson. Malik Moore has been legit in his starting role, no doubts there. #BYUvsUSU #GoCougs #BYUFootball
