SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pac-12 announced on Monday afternoon that Utah wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey was named Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Britain Covey had six punt returns on Saturday in Utah’s loss to San Diego State, while racking up 132 yards, which is a career-high. In the first quarter, Covey returned a punt 80-yards for a touchdown to put the Utes on the board in Carson, California. It’s the longest single return in the Pac-12 this season and the third PR TD for Covey in his career.
Covey is No. 2 in Utah football history for career punt return yards (871) and needs just 22 punt return yards to pass LaVon Edwards’ 892 yards. The Timpview High star is the first Utah returner to win the weekly award since Cory Butler-Byrd in 2015.
