SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It seems Mike Conley will wear the number 11 when he suits up for the Utah Jazz this season, a departure from the number 10 he wore each of the last two years.
The guard indicated the move by changing his Twitter handle from @MCONLEY10 to @mconley11 this week, the same username he had before being traded to Utah.
Conley wore the number the 11 in Memphis but switched to 10 when he was traded to the Jazz in the summer of 2019. At the time, he told the Commercial Appeal that he wouldn’t wear the number 11 again unless he was playing in Memphis.
“If I ever play (for) Memphis again, that’s the number I’ll wear,” Conley said. “I’m not wearing it anywhere else.”

In Memphis, Kyle Lowry already owned the number one when Conley was drafted which wore during his lone season at Ohio State, leading him to select number 11.
After being traded to Utah, the Grizzlies announced they plan to retire Conley’s number 11 when his NBA career is finished.
When the veteran guard arrived in Utah, then Jazz guard Dante Exum already wore the number 11, for Conley to choose an alternate. The Jazz traded Exum in December of 2019, leaving the number unused last season.
Conley was only the fourth player to wear the number 10 for the Jazz following Alec Burks, Gordon Giricek, and John Crotty.

Prior to Exum wearing 11, Andris Biedrins, Earl Watson, and Dee Brown had worn the number most recently. Conley will be the 12th Jazzman to wear to the number 11.
Newcomer Rudy Gay is switching from number 22 to number eight with the Jazz this season while Hassan Whiteside is expected to wear number 21.
Rookie Jared Butler will wear number 13 as the Jazz have retired the number 12 he wore in college to honor Hall of Famer John Stockton.
Eric Paschall has previously worn numbers four and seven in college and the pros, both of which are retired for Adrian Dantley and Pistol Pete Maravich respectively. Paschall had worn number 11 in high school, but that number will also be unavailable with Conley’s jersey number change.
Conley will debut his new jersey on October 4 when the Jazz travel to face the San Antonio Spurs to open the preseason.
