SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU great Bronson Kaufusi is currently with the Green Bay Packers. Instead of his signature defensive end position, where he was an elite sack artist for the Cougars, he’s now playing tight end.
But that’s not the only thing Kaufusi has been up to as of late up in Green Bay.
On Monday, Kaufusi, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, opened up on social media about what he called “one of the coolest experiences” he’s ever had in his life. Kaufusi had the chance to baptize his Packers teammate, Christian Uphoff into the Latter-day Saint Church.

Kaufusi shared the story on his personal Instagram page.
“One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. Meet my teammate & friend Christian Uphoff, @cnuphof was baptized yesterday and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. From fishing, to lessons, scripture studies, prayers, blessings and to him making the decision to follow Christ. I’m so grateful to be a piece of his story and journey. Excited for his future!”
Uphoff, like Kaufusi, joined the Green Bay Packers this season. He was an undrafted free agent this past spring out of an FCS program at Illinois State. Uphoff plays the safety position.

According to the Church, a baptism is a covenant –or a promise– that a person makes with God. When you get baptized, you promise to serve God and follow his commandments to the best of your abilities.
One of Kaufusi and Uphoff’s Packer teammates, Willington Previlon, wrote a comment on Kaufusi’s post that read, “God is great.”
Kaufusi’s former teammate along the defensive line at BYU, Travis Tuiloma, also weighed in, “This is awesome brother! I am happy for you and happy for @cnuphof. Excited to continue to hear of this mans faith because a lot but will also be followed with blessings!!”
Kaufusi is entering his sixth year in the NFL. For the last three seasons, Kaufusi was part of the New York Jets organization. Before that, he was a third-round selection of the Baltimore Ravens.
Uphoff, Kaufusi, and the Packers open up the 2021 season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, September 12.
