PROVO, Utah – Slowly but surely, the games are coming together for the 2021-22 BYU basketball non-conference schedule. The last addition is a road trip to Springfield, Missouri, to face the Missouri State Bears.
Missouri State announced their non-conference schedule on Monday, and BYU was on the list of the game. BYU will travel to Springfield for the first time on Saturday, December 4, at JQH Arena. The venue holds 11,000 seats.

This will be the third all-time meeting between BYU and the Bears. The last time BYU played the Bears was when they were known as Southwest Missouri State. Missouri State traveled to Provo in 1984 and 1987. With each team winning one game each.
Since BYU’s league home, the West Coast Conference switched to a 16-game conference schedule; it’s left BYU and other league members to schedule upwards of 15 out of conference games. With the addition of Missouri State, BYU is now believed to be up to 13 games out of conference.
Last season, Missouri State was 17-7 and finished in the top 100 of the NET rankings at No. 97. The Bears also finished no. 88 in the Ken Pomeroy ratings. Their 2021-22 roster features six seniors and a Valparaiso undergrad transfer in 6-foot-8 guard/forward Donovan Clay.
BYU has not released its full non-conference schedule yet. However, as of Monday, August 30th, 159 out of 358 Division I NCAA teams have released their non-conference schedules. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9.
