SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The San Francisco 49ers announced multiple transaction featuring a pair of former BYU football players.

The franchise made the roster moves on Friday, August 27.

San Francisco signed former BYU lineman Corbin Kaufusi and waived ex-Cougar defensive back Kai Nacua.

“The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday they have signed OL Corbin Kaufusi to a one-year deal,” the Niners said in a statement. “In order to make room on the roster, the team released S Kai Nacua.”

Kaufusi’s signing comes only three days after he was waived by San Francisco.

Both Kaufusi and Nacua have played for the Niners during the team’s preseason games in August.

About Corbin Kaufusi

Prior to his time in the NFL, Kaufusi played at BYU from 2016-18.

After his time in Provo, Kaufusi went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Following the Draft, Kaufusi signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints. He was released by the Saints during the final roster cuts before the 2019 season.

Kaufusi was signed by the New York Jets a practice squad player in October 2019. Two months later, he signed a Reserve/Future deal with the Jets.

In September 2020, the Jets waived Kaufusi before re-adding him to the practice squad.

The former BYU standout first joined the 49ers in January.

During his time in Provo, Nacua had 158 total tackles, 111 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 14 interceptions.

The safety joined the Cleveland Browns shortly after going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.

During his rookie campaign, Nacua played in 16 games, including three starts.

Since then, the defensive back has spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Niners.

He owns career starts of 15 total tackles and 13 solo tackles.
