BYU’s heralded quarterback Zach Wilson is now off to the NFL, where he is thriving with the New York Jets. Head coach Kalani Sitake believes this is the deepest team he has fielded since he took over the program five years ago.
BYU returns 11 starters from last year’s 11-win team. Along with a host of other players who gained valuable playing time during some of the Cougars’ blowout victories last year.
Running back Tyler Allgeier is one of the top players returning for BYU. Allgeier became the first BYU running back since Jamaal Williams to rush for over 1,000 yards last year. He’s expected to be a featured piece of offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s attack.
On defense, sixth-year defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki will rely heavily on the talents of his linebackers that Payton Wilgar leads. Wilgar is on a handful of preseason watch lists, including the Butkus Award (best linebacker award), entering the 2021 season.
The 2021 BYU football schedule features six games in Provo, five true road games, and one neutral site contest.
