No. 3 Lone Peak Takes Down California’s Alemany

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The third ranked Lone Peak Knights took down Alemany High School from California 31-24 in Week 2 of the season.

Lone Peak picked up a big win and did so with their defense as they stopped Alemany’s potential game-tying/winning drive. Easton Corner threw two touchdown passes, while Luke Durfey had a receiving and a rushing TD.

Here are all of the results in the 6A classification from the second week of the high school football season.

Non-Region

Bear River (4A) 14 @ Clearfield 27

The Bears jumped out to a 14-0 lead and had that lead until midway through the fourth quarter when Clearfield tied the game with 6:48 left and scored two more touchdowns after that to get the win. Shaydn Stoker threw three touchdown passes, including two to Josh Qualls.

Tooele (5A) 41 @ Cyprus 0

Future Utah Ute Mateaki Helu ran in three touchdowns for the Buffaloes, while Wil Kennedy blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown and Mapa Vaenuku also found the end zone as Tooele shut out the Pirates on the road.

No. 15 Roy 3 @ No. 11 Fremont 14

The first score of the game came early in the third quarter as Kyler Kotter returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Roy countered with a field goal but Kotter put the game away with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

West Jordan 26 @ Davis 14

Octavian Heflin got things started with a rushing touchdown for West Jordan. Hunter Anderson caught a short TD pass from Easton Baggett to take a 7-6 lead. Heflin added to his night with a receiving touchdown from Boston Farmer. Farmer then ran in a TD before Davis scored again. Kyle Curtis put the game away with a pick-six.

No. 25 Dixie (4A) 13 @ Riverton 16

Riverton scored first with a field goal. Dixie then scored two unanswered touchdowns with a run by Mason Kesterson and a pick-six from Shea Anderson to put them up 13-3. Minutes later in the third quarter was the difference as Jake Meyers connected with Mason Dunfield and Sau Tafisi had a one-yard touchdown to pick up the upset win.

No. 10 West 20 @ Herriman 32

Herriman jumped out to a 27-14 lead in the first half and never looked back as they picked up the upset win. Jack White threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Michael Falatea twice and Lalo Tafisi once.

Murray (5A) 42 @ Copper Hills 14

Copper Hills scored first but Murray then rattled off 42 straight points, including 27 first half points. Kade Scott had the trifecta with a scoop and score, a rushing and a receiving touchdown. Kyler Neilson threw two touchdowns in the win for the Spartans.

Bishop Manogue (Nev.) 0 @ No. 4 Bingham 45

It was all Bingham and it was early and often. Dallen Martinez had two touchdown runs, along with a passing TD. Luke Wilson had two touchdown grabs in the win.

Granger 12 @ Mountain Ridge 56

Mountain Ridge scored 49 points in the first half and cruised to their second straight win. Ayden Helm threw four touchdowns and ran in another. Jordan Day had two receiving TD’s in the win.

No. 18 Brighton (5A) 7 vs. Syracuse 31

The No. 18 Brighton Bengals and Syracuse Titans played in the Corner Canyon Tournament on Saturday, August 21. Syracuse upset Brighton, 31-7. Titans quarterback Jake Hopkins threw a pair of touchdown passes in the game. Syracuse’s Dylan Croxford scored two touchdowns in the Titans win. With the result, Brighton fell to 1-1 on the season and Syracuse improved to 2-0.

No. 7 East (5A) 5 @ No. 1 Corner Canyon 42

The No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers and No. 7 East Leopards played in the Corner Canyon Tournament on Saturday, August 21. The Chargers crushed the Leopards, 42-7. Corner Canyon scored 21 points in the opening quarter of play and added a touchdown in each of the subsequent quarters. East scored its only touchdown after a lightning delay in the third quarter. Corner Canyon’s Devin Brown scored four touchdowns in the Chargers’ win. With the result, East fell to 0-2 on the season and Corner Canyon improved to 2-0.
