SALT LAKE CITY – New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson had a solid performance during his first NFL preseason appearance. The former BYU great led two drives for the Jets in their 12-7 victory over the crosstown rival Giants.
During those two drives, Wilson was 6-of-9 for 63 yards and showed command of the new-look Jets offense while displaying poise in the pocket.
After the Jets victory, rookie head coach Robert Saleh was asked if “it’s all coming together” for Wilson. Saleh gave a glowing review of Zach Wilson and spoke highly of his QB’s potential.

“We have so much confidence in the young man,” Saleh said. “You want him to stack up as many good days as possible, but there’s still youth. He’s still a rookie. There are still a lot of things that he’s going to learn from. There’s still a lot of opportunities for him to grow. Even here –in this game– despite the fact that he looked comfortable and he did a nice job, there are still things he can learn off of. It’s never going to end. This young man’s potential is through the roof, but it’s going to be a process.”
That’s high praise coming from Saleh and shows the type of support and belief the Jets have in Zach Wilson. Honestly, they have no other choice but to commit their franchise to him. Investing the No. 2 overall pick on him, he is the future of the Jets organization.
The good news for the Jets is that Wilson’s football junkie attitude to the game is coming to light as he continues to get better and begins realizing the endless potential he has in this game.
Wilson and the Jets will be back in action for their second preseason game next Saturday when they travel to Green Bay to take on former Utah State Aggie Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. The kickoff for that game is at 2:25 p.m. (MT).
