The original report comes from The New York Post. According to the report, Smith will be “dipping his toes in the analyst game as opposed to taking on a full-time role.”

Smith is newly retired after his final season with the Washington Football Season. During that season, he was named the NFL’s Comeback Player Of The Year.
Prior to his final season, Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury. During his recovery, documented in ESPN’s documentary Project 11, Smith and his family were unsure if he’d ever walk again, let alone play football.
Alex Smith’s Career
Smith was drafted as the NFL’s number one pick from the University of Utah after winning the Heisman trophy. He played 16 seasons in the NFL with the San Fransisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Football Team.
He retired with 174 games played and 199 touchdowns but what he will be remembered for most is his story of resilience.
