No. 7 Orem, No. 19 Brighton Win In Battles Of Ranked Teams To Start Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 7 Orem Tigers and No. 19 Brighton Bengals both defeated ranked opponents to begin the 2021 high school football season.

Here are all of the results in the 5A classification from the first week of the high school football season.

Non-Region

No. 7 Orem 27 @ No. 3 East 14

The No. 7 Orem Tigers started the season with a upset of the No. 3 East Leopards. Tigers quarterback Chase Tuatagaloa hit Orem wide receiver Roger Saleapaga for a pair of touchdowns in the win. With the result, Orem improved to 1-0 and East fell to 0-1 to start the season.

No. 24 Pleasant Grove (6A) 24 @ No. 19 Brighton 49

The No. 19 Brighton Bengals held of the No. 24 Pleasant Grove Vikings, 49-24, in a battle of ranked teams to start the season. Bengals quarterback Jackson Johnson threw four touchdown passes in the win. With the result, Brighton improved to 1-0 and Pleasant Grove fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Tooele 49 @ American Leadership (2A) 13

The Tooele Buffaloes open the season with a blowout victory over the American Leadership Academy Eagles. 42 of the Buffaloes points came during the open of play. Tooele’s Mateaki Helu scored a pair of touchdowns in the win. With the result, Tooele improved to 1-0 and ALA fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Summit Academy (2A) 38 @ Cottonwood 20

The Summit Academy Bears open the 2021 campaign with a road victory over the Cottonwood Colts. Bears quarterback Devin Watson threw threw touchdown passes and ran for another in Summit Academy’s 18-point win. With the result, Summit Academy improved to 1-0 and Cottonwood fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Logan (4A) 20 @ Viewmont 16

The Logan Grizzlies started the season on the road and defeated the Viewmont Vikings to begin their 2021 slate. Logan’s Matthew Mason ran for three touchdowns in the game. With the result, Logan improved to 1-0 and Viewmont fell to 0-1 to start the season.

No. 20 Ridgeline (4A) 29 @ Bonneville 16

The No. 20 Ridgeline RiverHawks begin the year with a solid road win over the Bonneville Lakers. RiverHawks quarterback Kaden Cox threw a pair of touchdowns passes and Ridgeline’s Noah White also scored twice in the win. With the result, Ridgeline improved to 1-0 and Bonneville fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Maple Mountain 55 @ Mountain View 22

The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles crushed the Mountain View Bruins to start the season. Maple Mountain went on the road and won, 55-22. Golden Eagles standout Josh Glassford scored five touchdowns, including four rushing scores in the victory. With the result, Maple Mountain improved to 1-0 and Mountain View fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Cedar City (4A) 7 @ No. 15 Spanish Fork 34

The No. 15 Spanish Fork Dons got started on the right note this season with a 34-7 win over the Cedar City Reds. Spanish Fork’s Tayson Reid and Cade Olsen each scored a pair of touchdowns in the victory. With the result, Spanish Fork improved to 1-0 and Cedar City fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Timpanogos 45 @ Millard (2A) 26

The Timpanogos Timberwolves trounced the Millard Eagles to start the season, 45-26. With the result, Timpanogos improved to 1-0 and Millard fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Copper Hills (6A) 0 @ Cedar Valley 35

The Cedar Valley Aviators soared past the visiting Copper Hills Grizzlies to start the year, 35-0. Cedar Valley scored 28 of its points in the first half. Aviators running back Easton Schank ran for three touchdowns in the win. With the result, Cedar Valley improved to 1-0 and Copper Hills fell to 0-1 to start the season.

No. 18 Dixie (4A) 9 @ Springville 41

The Springville Red Devils upset the visiting No. 18 Dixie Flyers to open the 2021 season. Springville’s Ryder Burton and Cole Clement connected for a pair of touchdowns in the victory. With the result, Springville improved to 1-0 and Dixie fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Payson 40 @ North Sanpete (3A) 35

The Payson Lions held on for a 40-35 victory over the North Sanpete Hawks to open the season. The Hawks scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the Lions escaped with a five-point road win. Payson’s Landon Bowles found Tyler Allan for a pair of touchdowns in the win. With the result, Payson improved to 1-0 and North Sanpete fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Skyline 30 @ Juan Diego (3A) 52

The Juan Diego Soaring Eagle flew past the Skyline Eagles in Friday night’s season-opener, 52-30. Dallas Larson scored three touchdowns for Juan Diego and Austin Okerwa scored four times for Skyline. With the result, Juan Diego improved to 1-0 and Skyline fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Grantsville (3A) 2 @ No. 21 Provo 7

The No. 21 Provo Bulldogs won a defensive performance against the Grantsville Cowboys to start the season. Provo’s Feitagai Lesa scored the game’s only touchdown. The Cowboys’ only score came on a safety during the final quarter of play. With the result, Provo improved to 1-0 and Grantsville fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Mountain Crest (4A) 7 @ Stansbury 49

The Stansbury Stallions stomped the Mountain Crest Mustangs 49-7 to begin the season. Stallions quarterback Ezra Harris threw for three touchdowns in the win. With the result, Stansbury improved to 1-0 and Mountain Crest fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Taylorsville (6A) 0 @ Northridge 64

The Northridge Knights blitzed the Taylorsville Warriors to open the year with a 64-0 win. Knights quarterback Maximus Fonoti-Maikui scored four times in the victory. With the result, Northridge improved to 1-0 and Taylorsville fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Hillcrest 7 @ Murray 42

The Murray Spartans started the season strong with a 42-7 win over the Hillcrest Huskies. Murray’s Lance Wightman scored three touchdowns in the victory. With the result, Murray improved to 1-0 and Hillcrest fell to 0-1 to start the season.

South Summit (2A) 30 @ Uintah 20

The South Summit Wildcats started the year with a 30-20 road win over the Uintah Utes. Wildcats quarterback Kyler Sudweeks scored three times in the win. With the result, South Summit improved to 1-0 and Uintah fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Bountiful @ Highland – Canceled

This game was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Rams program.

No. 17 Pine View (4A) 38 @ Salem Hills 27

The No. 17 Pine View Panthers started the season with a 38-27 victory over the Salem Hills SkyHawks. Pine View’s Keith Adams ran for three touchdowns in the win. With the result, Pine View improved to 1-0 and Salem Hills fell to 0-1 to start the season.
