SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It was not the final round that Tony Finau was hoping for at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational as he carded a four-over-par on Sunday afternoon.
Finau, 31, began the day seven shots back and needed a low final round to secure yet another top 10 finish. However, those hopes and dreams went out the window down the stretch.
His front nine began with a stretch of six consecutive pars, then, his first birdie dropped on the seventh before a bogey on eight and a closing front nine birdie on the ninth. He made the turn at one-under-par.
He began the back nine in a similar fashion to how he started the front with five consecutive pars. Although, that is where the good work ended for Finau who bogeyed the 15th, triple-bogeyed the par 5, 16th and ended with a bogey on 18 for a four-over-par final round.
The triple-bogey on 16 eventuated after he overshot his third shot from just 175 yards out and ultimately had to take a penalty.

Finau was not the only player in the field to card over par rounds on Sunday, rather, overnight leader Harris English and final two group members Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith also carded 73, 73, and 72 final round scores respectively.
Finau lost to Abraha Ancer who secured his debut win on the PGA Tour after managing a two-under-par final round to secure the victory in a playoff against Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns.
PGA Tour Schedule
As the PGA Tour schedule winds down only four events remain on the schedule.
Next week, the Tour travels to North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship which will be hosted by Sedgefield Country Club.
It remains unknown if Finau will participate. That announcement is expected over the coming days.
