Tony Finau Makes Cut, Remains In Contention As Weekend Looms In Memphis

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has concluded his second round at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and enters the weekend just outside the top 10.
Finau, 31, entered Friday seven shots off the first-round leader Harris English and enters the weekend still seven shots back following a five-under-par round from English who sits atop the leaderboard at 13-under-par. Finau currently stands at 6-under-par after he also managed to be five-under-par throughout Friday’s round in Memphis.

Despite being back seven shots Finau is tied in 13th position entering the weekend.
His Friday round consisted of six birdies and just one bogey. After teeing off the first tee, Finau managed a front nine of four birdies. The back nine gifted Finau birdies on 12 and 15 before he concluded his round on 18 with his lone bogey of the day.
On 18, Finau drove his tee shot into the water and was forced to take a penalty stroke. He then missed his approach shot to the right and was forced to chip in an attempt to save par. He chipped to two feet and tapped in for bogey to conclude his round.
Outside of the 18th hole, Finau played a very good brand of golf throughout the day. He managed to hit 8 from a possible 14 fairways and 12 from a possible 18 greens.

However, work still remains for Finau if he intends on contending come Sunday. Saturday is moving day for Finau if he is any chance of testing Harris English.
The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational is being played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Previously, Finau missed the cut in his debut attempt in 2018 and managed a T63rd finish in 2019.
This year, it seems as though that Finau is poised to have his best finish at TPC Southwind, barring anything unforeseen over the weekend.
