Eddy Alvarez, USA Baseball Advance To Gold Medal Game With Victory Over South Korea

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Salt Lake Community College standout Eddy Alvarez and USA Baseball advanced to the Gold Medal Game of the Tokyo Olympics with a semifinal win over the Republic of Korea.
Team USA played South Korea on Thursday, August 5.
USA Baseball defeated the Republic of Korea, 7-2.

The victory guaranteed Alvarez a Gold or Silver medal in the Games. By earning a medal in Tokyo, Alvarez will become only the third American in history to win an Olympic medal in both the Winter and Summer Games. Alvarez won Silver during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

During the semifinal, the United States had nine hits and one error compared to seven hits by South Korea.
Alvarez finished the game batting 1/4 with one RBI and two strikeouts.

With the win, Team USA advanced to the baseball final against Japan on Saturday, August 7 at 4 a.m. (MDT).
