Eddy Alvarez, USA Baseball Advance With Win Over Dominican Republic

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former SLCC star Eddy Alvarez and Team USA baseball defeated the Dominican Republic in the knockout round 3-1 on Tuesday night.
It was a tough outing for Eddy Alvarez who went 0-for-4 and just struggled to get the ball in play but their defense prevailed.
The United States had a strong start to the game as Triston Casas hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Tyler Austin got Team USA back on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the fifth inning to give them a 3-0 lead.

The rest of the game was scoreless until the top of the ninth when the Dominican Republic hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Team USA walked the next batter and the tying run was at the plate when Robertson struck out the batter to get the final out.
Team USA will play in the second semifinal on Thursday, August 5 at 4 a.m. MDT.
