SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Detroit Lions cheered for Melissa Gonzalez during her qualification for the 400m hurdle semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics.
Gonzalez is the wife of Lions quarterback David Blough.
During Day 3 of Detroit’s training camp on Friday, July 30, the team held a watch party to see Gonzalez perform.
Gonzalez qualified for the 400m hurdle semis with a Colombian record of 55.32 seconds.
After Gonzalez qualified, Blough and his teammates cheered in the team’s film room.

“You don’t always get these type of experiences, but to me that embodies enjoying the ride because that was pretty cool,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said during a press conference a day later. “It was a moment, I can tell you that.”
“I wish you all could see the day to day that went into this. In 2017, Melissa said, “I know I belong at the highest level, I’m going to run through Tokyo 2020 and just see what happens,” Blough posted on Instagram. “Here she is in 2021 after a few crazy years. Stronger. Faster. Now, an Olympian! Are you kidding me?!”
