SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson is officially a member of the New York Jets after signing his rookie contract.
Wilson was the last unsigned first round pick from the 2021 NFL Draft.
The former BYU star signed his rookie deal on Thursday, July 29. On July 28, the Jets opened their training camp without Wilson on the field.
The deal is a fully-guaranteed, four-year contract projected to be worth $35.1 million including a signing bonus of almost $23 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The delay in signing the deal forced Wilson to miss the first days of Jets training camp. It was said that the fight focused on “offset language” but as ProFootballTalk earlier reported the signing bonus has also been an impediment. The Jets wanted to defer millions into 2022.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke today about the delay in Wilson’s training camp appearance.
“It’s more concern for the kid. It’s too many (missed practices) already — for him … This young man has a chance to do something special here that hasn’t been done in a long time.”
So, it’s “tomorrow”. Robert Saleh said that’s when we could ask him if Zach Wilson needs to be in camp now. So is it time to …
“To panic?” he said. “You’re never going to see me panic. Zach’s going to sign. When it happens is when it’s going to happen.” pic.twitter.com/G6dnFabSJw

Schefter also reported that the comprises on the deal mean “Wilson gets no deferral and the Jets get offset language.”

It’s likely Jets fans will see Wilson at training camp soon as it is being reported that he is already in New Jersey and ready to practice.
