SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU star Jordan Matyas and the U.S. women’s rugby sevens got the win in the team’s opening match in the Olympic tournament in Tokyo.

The Americans started slow, giving up a try to start the game, and going down 7-0 to the Chinese after a successful conversion.

However, the U.S. answered with 28 unanswered points, taking a 28-7 lead until the final seconds.

Matyas played just four minutes, and didn’t register anything on the final stat sheet.

The Women’s Eagles will play next early Thursday morning against Japan. That match will take place at 3:00 a.m. in Utah and will be televised live on USA Network.
