SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau got off to a hot start during the third round of the 3M Open to climb the leaderboard before settling for an even-par back nine to be six shots off the lead with one round to play.
Finau, 31, teed off the 10th hole alongside Martin Trainer and Patton Kizzire. His first birdie fell on 12 after consecutive pars to open his round. Pars then dropped on 13 and 14 before he sunk consecutive birdies to climb the leaderboard. Sadly, the good work unravelled on the par 3 17th when his tee shot found the water. He chipped on, left himself 37 feet for bogey and settled four double.
A closing birdie dropped on 18 to make the turn at two-under-par.
His back nine, which was on the front 9 holes of TPC Twin Cities, only consisted of one birdie on the par 5 6th. The remaining 8 holes Finau made par.
Finau currently sits six shots off the current leader Bo Hoag who enters the final round at 12-under-par. Finau is in a current tie for 30th.
Previously, Finau has found success at the 3M Open, in his previous two starts he finished in 3rd and T23 in 2019 and 2018 respectively.
