Utah Avalanche Win 13U Boys USYS National Championship After Shootout

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Avalanche club captured the 13U Boys US Youth Soccer National Championship with a shootout victory against Mundelein Soccer Club.
The USYS title game took place in Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida on Friday, July 23.
Utah and Mundelein SC battled for the trophy before the Avalanche came away with the title.
The Avalanche won the contest following an impressive performance in extra time and a shootout.
The victory made Avalanche the first Utah boys to win a USYS national title.
Following regulation, Utah and Mundelein SC were tied, 1-1.
The Avalanche went up 2-1 in extra time and appeared to be headed for victory before Mundelein SC leveled the match with a header in the 93rd minute.

Championship Shootout
Utah and Mundelein SC went to a shootout to decide the title game.
Avalanche keeper Will Mackay buried the opening kick and then stopped Mundelein’s first attempt.
Utah’s Isaac Murphy stepped up and connected on his try and gave the Avalanche a 2-0 advantage.
Mackay then halted Mundelein’s second attempt.

Drake Arnold’s kick was saved by Mundelein SC keeper Kyle Marshall and kept Utah’s lead to 2-0.
Following Mundelein’s save, Mackay blocked another kick to maintain Utah’s advantage.
Utah’s Jace Thomson stepped up to the spot and connected on his attempt to clinch the game and the trophy for the Avalanche.

Earlier this summer, the Avalanche won the Utah State Cup, Far West Regional, and ECNL Championship.
Youth Soccer Rankings currently rank the Avalanche as the No. 1 team in the state, No. 3 in the region and No. 10 in the country.
Since June 2020, the Avalanche own a record of 68-1-1.
The team is currently holding a fundraiser for future travel expenses.
