Christen Press Seals Victory For USWNT With Late Goal Against New Zealand

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Royals FC star Christen Press sealed a win for the United States Women’s National Team with a late goal against New Zealand.
The USA played New Zealand on Saturday, July 24.
With the USWNT holding a 3-1 lead late in the match, the former Royal pushed the margin for the Red, White, and Blue.
In the 80th minute of action, Julie Ertz sent the ball into the box and Press sent it home.

Press’ goal stretch the lead to 4-1 for the United States.
Rose Lavelle gave the USA an early advantage in the ninth minute with the match’s first goal.

The USWNT extended their lead with a first half by Lindsey Horan.

In the second half, an own-goal by New Zealand gave the United States a 3-0 advantage.
New Zealand’s first and only goal of the match came during the 72nd minute of play.
Press’ goal in the 80th minute wasn’t Team USA’s last.
Alex Morgan scored the team’s fifth goal of the match in the 88th minute.

With more pressure from Press, New Zealand gave up another own-goal during stoppage time that moved the scoreboard to a final of 6-1 for the USWNT.

The USWNT’s next match is against Australia on Tuesday, July 27 at 2 a.m. (MDT). The contest will broadcast on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
