SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau is through 14 holes and currently sits one-over-par, but play has been suspended due to inclement weather with lightning in the area.

Finau, 31, began his round off the 10th tee alongside Sergio Garcia & Rickie Fowler and put together a five-hole stretch of pars. He then made back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 but made a closing bogey at the turn after finding water on his 2nd shot on the par 5 18th.

A double-bogey dropped on the 2nd hole after again finding water with his approach despite only having 123 yards after hitting a bomb down the fairway. He three-putted from 11 feet to make a very uncharacteristic double.

An immediate bogey followed on the par 4 3rd hole after he found a fairway bunker off the tee and was unable to hit the green in regulation from 181 yards.

His final birdie before the weather delay came on his final hole, the par 4 5th. He sunk a 17-foot putt to get back on track before the horn blew.

Finau is chasing American Scott Stallings who is 8-under-par through 17 holes. His fellow playing companions Garcia and Fowler sits at two-under-par and seven-under-par respectively.

Last year, the tournament was not played due to the global pandemic. However, in 2019 Finau finished in lone third. The year before that he finished in a T-23 in his 3M Open debut.
