Jaren Hall Highest-Rated QB From State Of Utah For 2021 Season
SALT LAKE CITY – Despite having the tall task of replacing Zach Wilson, BYU football still has the best QB in the state of Utah, according to Pro Football Focus.
The advanced football analytics company put out their annual preseason QB rankings for all 130 FBS starters. BYU’s Jaren Hall ranked the highest among signal-callers from the Beehive State.

Hall hasn’t officially won the job. However, PFF is projecting that the Spanish Fork native will win the job when fall camp begins on August 5th.
In the 130 FBS starters rankings, PFF ranks Jaren Hall as the 49th best quarterback in the country. PFF ranked structured their QB rankings in tiers. Hall landed in Tier 3: “The Good, Not Great” threshold.
Here’s what PFF had to say about Jaren Hall.
Hall is set to take on the impossible task of replacing BYU legend Zach Wilson, who in 2020 earned the highest single-season PFF grade ever given to a non-Power Five quarterback.
Hall last saw game action in 2019. He showcased toughness, athleticism, arm strength and an ability to play on the move, ultimately earning a 77.3 PFF grade across 55 dropbacks.
While Hall is unlikely to replicate Wilson’s level of production, he certainly has the talent to rank among the nation’s top non-Power Five quarterbacks and hold off the kind of debilitating regression that will threaten this BYU program. His biggest obstacle will be staying healthy, something he has struggled with in the past.
BYU isn’t the only program in the state of Utah that is breaking in a new quarterback this season. All three FBS programs from the state will have new starting quarterbacks in 2021.
PFF projects Baylor transfer Charlie Brewer to win the job at Utah, and Arkansas State transfer Logan Bonner to be the starter at Utah State. Both Bonner and Brewer landed in PFF’s fourth tier, “The Average.”
Bonner, who comes to Utah State with new head coach Blake Anderson. The two worked together at Arkansas State. Bonner checks in at No. 64 on the rankings, while Utah’s Charlie Brewer appears at No. 71.
BYU will face both Bonner and Brewer during the 2021 season. The highest-ranked quarterback that BYU will face, according to PFF, is USC QB Kedon Slovis. Slovis sneaks into the top 10 of the ratings at No. 10.
