SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – French midfielder Paul Pogba put the cherry on top of the cake in his team’s European Championship Round of 16 loss against Switzerland when he found the top corner to score France’s third goal of the match.

It was Pogba’s first goal of the tournament and it came in remarkable fashion. After taking a soft touch and guiding the ball onto his right foot, Pogba unleashed a magnificent shot with the inside of his right foot that curled past the outstretched fingers of Swiss goalkeeper Sommer and into the top-right corner of the net.

The goal gifted France their third and a two-goal lead against the Swiss. However, a late surge from the Swiss sent the game into extra time.

The 2020 EUROs have been filled with controversy and excitement, France and Switzerland did not disappoint. Rather, only added to the theatre of the tournament.

France ultimately lost to Switzerland in penalties after goalkeeper Yann Sommer denied french prodigy Kylian Mbappé with the final kick of the game.

Switzerland was rewarded with a quarterfinal fixture against Spain slated for Friday, July 2 with kickoff scheduled for 10 a.m.
