SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It was another poor showing from Tony Finau on the PGA Tour as he ended the opening round of the Travelers Championship at 6-over-par and 13 shots off the leaders.
One Birdie, Five Bogeys & A Double
Finau, 31, got off to a good start when he birdied the 2nd hole. His approach shot out of the first cut left him with a 9-foot look at birdie that he would drain.
Sadly, that was his only birdie of the first round. The remaining 16 holes consisted of 5 bogeys and a concluding double-bogey on 17.
Drains it! It’s a +6 (76) for Tony today https://t.co/3uSziGDQpR

It is the second consecutive week that Finau has struggled after he missed the cut at the U.S. Open last week. Finau will rely on a big second round if he has any plans to play on the weekend at the Travelers this week.
The Travelers Championship has both been kind and cruel to Finau over the years, he finished in the top 25 the first three years that he participated, but has missed the cut on the previous two attempts.
The opening round of the Travelers Championship was summed up on the 17th hole that he ultimately double-bogeyed. His second shot was out of the fairway bunker that he topped, barely getting the ball out of the trap before it trickled into the water.

Second Round
The second round begins at 5:45 a.m. off the 10th tee alongside Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson who finished the first round at one-under-par and even-par respectively.
Finau enters the second round in a tie for 150th and the fourth-worst starting second-round score in the field.
