Longtime Highland HS Basketball, Tennis Coach Larry Maxwell Passes Away

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Longtime Highland High School basketball and tennis coach Larry Maxwell has passed away this weekend.
The son-in-law of Larry Maxwell confirmed to KSL Sports of the passing of Larry Maxwell on Sunday afternoon.
Maxwell was the head basketball coach at Highland High School for 34 years while winning five state titles. He was also the tennis coach and led the Rams to 10 state championships.
Maxwell’s son is the head basketball coach at Bountiful High School.
Larry Maxwell’s name is forever enshrined at Highland High School.

While at Highland, he coached former Utah star and current BYU women’s basketball head coach Jeff Judkins played for Maxwell. Judkins has his jersey retired in the rafters.
Back in 2019, Highland dedicated their gym and renamed it the “Larry Maxwell Gymnasium.” During his time as head basketball coach, Maxwell compiled 503 wins.
