SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley has a mild strain to his right hamstring and will be re-evaluated ahead of the team’s second-round playoff series.

Conley said he felt tightness in his previously injured hamstring in the first quarter of the Jazz close-out victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, and tried to return to the floor before the pain worsened.

“The first quarter I felt a little tug or whatever in my hammy, I came to the bench and made the staff aware,” Conley said. “I told them I’d try to just run on it and play through it and see how it feels, and it just kept getting sorer and sorer the more I was running on it.”

The Jazz announced the results of Conley’s MRI on Thursday, a day after eliminating Memphis.

“During Game 5 between the Jazz and Grizzlies last night, Mike Conley left in the second quarter after experiencing right hamstring soreness. This morning an MRI revealed a mild right hamstring strain. He will be reevaluated prior to Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

The Jazz eliminated the Grizzlies in five games, and are awaiting the winner of the opening-round series between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Conley has missed 21 game already this season as a result of the hamstring injury. The guard was first injured on February 7 in Charlotte and would miss the team’s next six games

After the initial diagnosis, Conley would sit on either end of back-to-back games for the Jazz, before re-aggravating the injury against the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 26.

Conley would miss nine of the Jazz final 11 regular season games before returning to help the team lock up the top seed in the West.

In his postgame press conference, Conley said the latest injury didn’t feel as bad as the last, but he would trust the Jazz’s trainers before returning to the floor.

“Obviously, it’s the playoffs so my mindset is to be ready to play,” Conley said, “so that’s the visual I’m going to put in front of myself that I’m going to be ready. But at the same time, we’re going just see what happens in the next few days and be smart about how we approach it.”
